A Books at the Brewery DOUBLE BILL with local authors, R J Murdoch and Coleen Clare.

About the books

Minoan Footsteps was inspired by a women’s pilgrimage to Crete and explores themes of matriarchal culture, resilience, and the enduring strength of women’s voices.

Set against the ancient landscapes of Crete, Minoan Footsteps follows six women on a guided tour where myth, memory and modern tensions collide. As they explore sacred sites and local culture, personal histories surface and hidden dangers emerge. With complex characters, evocative settings and a thread of suspense, this compelling novel explores female friendship, resilience and the enduring legacy of the Minoan world. A thought-provoking journey through past and present—where no one returns unchanged

Finchie and the Missing Men

Finchie’s brother-in law, Kevin Kimber, disappears. There are no witnesses, no clues and no ransom demands. The police suspect Kimber has done a ‘runner’.

Finchie’s sister, Bev, distressed by the lack of police involvement, appeals to Finchie to solve the mystery.

After Kimber’s lifelong friend Jack Hunter QC, goes missing, and a murder takes place which could be connected, Finchie’s old sparring partner Detective Stephen O’Day becomes involved. More murder and mystery follow. Meanwhile, Finchie falls in love, fights his personal demons, and risks his life to finally unearth the long-buried secrets behind the crimes… then he quietly buries a few secrets of his own.

About the Authors

Coleen Clare

Coleen Clare is a storyteller, feminist, psychologist, and community advocate whose life experience deeply informs her fiction. Born in Aotearoa and now based in Australia, she’s worked across New Zealand, Samoa, and Australia with a long-standing commitment to social justice and Indigenous respect.

She currently lives in the city with a group of eight lesbians who chose to live together a decade ago but is planning a move to Castlemaine to join a co-housing community of women 50+, which she and others have spent nine years planning.

RJ Murdoch (Rob)

R. J. (Rob) Murdoch was born in a police station and has had an eye for crime ever since. He has consorted with Fate in the outback, loitered in the lobby of architecture and buried truths in the field of advertising. Fattened on the bosom of bureaucracy, he set sail with his first mate on the winds of trade and fetched up in Castlemaine where, with the help of Finchie, he hopes to make a killing.
